Today in my lovely hometown, we have snow. And not the pretty fat snowflakes that drift to the ground slowly and make everything seem so still and perfect. Nope. We have those little snowflakes that feel a little more like ice pellets as they hit the back of your neck or somehow find their way into your coat. Those little snowflakes combined with blowing wind so that you can’t hardly keep your eyes open as you’re running to your car. And by running, I mean holding the hand of a five year old who is so amazed at the falling snow and trying to catch snowflakes on his tongue that it takes longer to get to the car than on a normal day.
The reason I tell you that is to tell you this. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to take a job in Arizona. (Arizona doesn’t often have those little icy snowflakes. They have sunshine and warmth.) I turned that job down to remain close to my family while I went through a single-mom pregnancy. Most days I am glad I made that decision. Most days I know that it was the right decision for myself and my child. Most days I don’t even think about it.
Today, in the blowing snow… I’m wishing I was in Arizona, sitting by a pool, drinking iced coffee and watching the sun come up.
Any decisions that you only wish you could change in certain situations, or weather patterns?
